Getting MAD !

Since I am MAD - Motivated About Debt ... I wondered just how many options I had overlooked to make our debt more managable and yet start getting SERIOUS about being free !

Here are some things I came up with :

* Selling our gas guzzling Chevy
* Selling our Mazda - which currently I am working on learning how to drive but still not comfortable with it on my own
*Selling hope chest
*Hubby getting a part-time job
*Me getting part-time job (just applied for a summer job & have a interview on Monday)
*Selling baby swing and portable crib

  1. I would add: don't eat out, EVER, until you are debt free and have the cash.
Don't act like life owes you stuff. It doesn't. How much stuff do you really need?
Don't take all the advice given to you by bankers and others in the money industry. Remember they are trying to make money by getting your money.
Window shopping is a wonderful way to date.
If you want something don't buy it. Wait a while to see if it is really something you need, not just want.

    Keep your hope chest.
If you sell your vehicles what are you going to drive? Financing a new(er) vehicle will probably not be cheaper. Think this through very carefully.
Sell the stuff you really, really don't need or that isn't or will not be an heirloom.

    N. Eldon Tanner taught this.
    1. Pay an honest tithing.
    2. Live on less than you earn.
    3. Learn to distinguish needs and wants
    4. Develop and live within a budget. (this take major resolve and commitment)
5 Be honest in all financial affairs.

  2. A new grandma may want your portable crib. I bought one from a local friend. She needed the $ I need a safe place for a grandchild to stay when sleeping here.

  3. Jeanette - I just love you ! I should clarify that these are things I thought about getting rid of but no decision has been made yet. The hope chest however is no heirloom & while I like it I have no emotional attachment to it. We wouldn't sell both vehicles & we own the Mazda so that would be easier to sell versus the Chevy which we just got last summer. I also have found odds & ends around the house that I could sell. I priced it all out today & if I got what I wanted for some of these items I think I could easily clear $1,000. Now that would be nice !
